The Daddy I had 2 bottles set aside for over Christmas, boy (4.5 year) smashed one playing football in the kitchen, poor mite nearly hit the roof when the bottle smashed. I've told him its coming out of his pocket money (he doesn't get pocket money yet!!!) So this one bottle was for savouring. My usual Special dealer (hmmm) has been out of stock for a while now, and I'm struggling to source a supplier. So this was kept over Christmas and never opened until I could resist no more. This is porter like you r great grandfather would have drank. PROPER. Long live the Special

Second trip to the wheat beer well delivered an Uertl special. I learned my lesson from Pale Ale night ad kept my known entity till last. Unertl create fanastic heavy weiss, this was a magnificent end to the evening. Chewy malt, light hop, biog body. Scrummy

Then there was the wheat beer night. Spicey, all the fruit hints you would expect and with a soft finish with a light froth I'd never tried this before, I was suprised

Sticking on a Pale Ale train of thought, I followed he Odell with the bottle of Blue Heron. Now it had a tough act to follow after the 5 Barrel special and whilst it couldn't quite match it, it still delivered Pale Ale with gusto. Slightly paler in colour and body it reminded me mostly of Brooklyn lager (which is the heaviest hopped lager I know - and love)

Odell, 5 Barrel Pale Ale Need a hoppy refreshing tipple... open your beer box and select this one. The hop is light enough to allow some malt, but serious enough to cleanse your pallet. This is an Odell special

I'm somewhat partial to ginger, I've blogged William's brothers attempt previously, Crabbie's has made an impression, ginger chicken, biscuits, ginger ale with good whiskey, I love the stuff. The additional William's Brothers glassware (comes with the box) means I'll just have to buy more Harvest Sun, Ginger and Fraoch
